The world of Chablis (2)

As we explained in the first installment, the Premiers Cru are the second quality classification for the area of Chablis. As is the case with the Burgundy of Beaune, here again the importance and the technical skill of the winemaker allow for the creation of an infinite number of sub-classifications. The difference in Chablis is less relevant because the common trait of its wines is very recognizable, especially given the latest technological advances. There are some 40 Chablis Premiers Cru but most of them are not that well- known because the production is low, compared to 12 or 13 Cru that in various time periods rose to significant importance and, as a consequence, have become the most sought after among wine lovers and thus amply ‘colonized’ by the more inspired producers.
