Rebel Queen – Vernaccia di San Gimignano Wine Fest
Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the “Queen” of Tuscan appellations, has experienced strong growth in recent years. On June 3 and 4 a dedicated festival will be held to raise awareness of this historic white wine and its magnificent terroir.
“We are confident in the year that lies ahead: already in these first few months we have recorded an increase in consumption, a sign that makes us optimistic about the positive trend and confirms the success and constant growth of the presence of our wine on tables in Italy and around the world”, says Irina Strozzi, President of the Consorzio Vernaccia di San Gimignano.
And this growth has also strongly inspired a recent renewal of the image and communication of Vernaccia di San Gimignano: the “White Queen -of Tuscany- in a land of red wines: Unique, Noble, Rebellious”, an ancestral wine which we can trace back to the 13th century and which was appreciated by figures such as Dante, Boccaccio, Michelangelo the Younger, Vasari, the Medici family... An appellation that is also projected into the future, however, and that enthusiastically and with the support of its Guardians - the winemakers - is appealing to a young and international consumer target. All this without forgetting the extraordinary and exemplary vocation for ageing in the bottle in both vintage and reserve versions, a unique capacity of a wine that is capable of being appreciated with and over time.
Regina Ribelle - Vernaccia di San Gimignano Wine Fest, the festival dedicated to the White Queen in the land of Red Kings, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, which will be hosted in its own land on the 3rd and 4th of June, is also part of this new image and vision of outreach and internationalisation.
The Consorzio del vino Vernaccia di San Gimignano will be responsible for the organisation on those dates of Regina Ribelle – Vernaccia di San Gimignano Wine Fest. This is the first ever edition of an event conceived and realised in the area and dedicated entirely to the great white wine of Tuscany. An event desired by the Consortium and the producers - the Guardians of the White Queen - to allow wine lovers, enthusiasts and operators in the sector to taste Vernaccia di San Gimignano in the places where its age-old history began and continues to this day.
The programme includes two days of tasting itineraries throughout the old town, meetings with the producers of Vernaccia di San Gimignano, and guided wine tastings at the Rocca di Montestaffoli, home of the Vernaccia di San Gimignano Wine Experience. There will also be an evening appointment for aperitifs and a DJ set and entertainment in the squares and streets.
The town's restaurateurs will also be proposing the “Vernaccia di San Gimignano Menu” during the event, with a carefully studied pairing of food and wine, and the wine shops will remain open for purchases.
