Happy Birthday Grandpa Livio

Livio Felluga, the patriarch of Italian wine, turns 100 today and so, first of all, best wishes! Reaching 100 is something not many do and plus he spent most of the past century in the world of wine. His winery, the bottles of which have a map of the Friuli region, started up in 1956 when he and his brother Marco, 12 years younger than him, divided up their family estate. Thus for the past 58 years his name has been linked with the production of quality wine. The winery is in Brazzano, north of Cormons, in Collio, while his vineyards are mostly in Collli Orientali del Friuli, in Rosazzo, and Oleis, in the township of Manzano. His wines, mostly whites, have made winemaking history in Italy for over half a century. Today there will be a big party at the Abbazia (Abby) di Rosazza, an historic location and not just because of the wines Felluga has made there. All the editorial staff at Doctor Wine rise their glasses to toast the grandfather of Friuli wine. Happy birthday from all of us!
