Incendio OVH a Strasburgo

DoctorWine was among the three million sites that went offline following the fire at the OVH Cloud datacenter in Strasbourg.

I imagine that most of you who follow websites are aware of the fire that took place at the French OVH cloud datacenter in Strasbourg. On Wednesday morning, it sent millions of web sites offline throughout Europe, including some local Italian institutional sites as well as the Centre Pompidou and even a French government site (data.gouv.fr).

The official site of French parent company has offered explanations and updates regarding the event. In short: “A fire broke out Wednesday morning, March 10, 2021, at 00:47AM in a structure housing one of the four OVHcloud datacenters in Strasbourg called SBG2. The fire for the most part destroyed the SBG2 datacenter and partially damaged the SBG1 datacenter (a total of four structures out of 12). The other two OVH cloud datacenters in Strasbourg were not affected by the fire. Servers SBG3 and SBG4 are in the process of being deactivated but were not involved in the fire. The cause of the fire is currently being ascertained and authorities have opened an official investigation”. The company, obviously, immediately began work to reactivate the two datacenters not destroyed by the fire (SBG3 and SBG4) as well as the one partially damaged (SBG1) and hopes to have the network up and running as soon as possible.

The French giant has 2% of the European market and is in eighth place in Europe after the American leaders. The server for DoctorWine, hosted on SBG1, was one of the over 29,000 servers on that datacenter and we are not yet able to go back online. We are thus a drop in the ocean of sites that were blocked these past few days.

We are well aware that, being a magazine primarily dedicated to wine, followed by food and wine tourism, our absence from the web is not that important but, nevertheless, to be blocked due to causes beyond our control was not a good thing. Our presence on the web, with new articles and content, is daily endeavor and we are used to interacting with you readers, through our site and, above all, the social media.

We thank all you readers for the patience you have demonstrated waiting for us over these past days. Our technicians are finishing the transition of all our content on a new server and in one, maximum two days we will be on line again. We are here, ready to update and inform you with new ideas, new discoveries and new articles.
