See you in Milan on September 29th

There will be a record number of estates at the tasting tables for our presentation of The Essential Guide to Italian Wine 2020. Register on line.

For those of a certain age the date chosen will have a special meaning given that the Battisti-Mogol song has a particular place in our hearts. But seeing how the world that turns around us is that of wine let’s take a look at the presentation of the Essential Guide to Italian Wine.

I am truly pleased to see how our wine party, the tasting paired with the presentation of our guide, continues to expand. Every year we see a growing number of estates demonstrating how they believe in our evaluations and would like to have a space at our tasting tables. And every year the number of sector operators and journalists, not to mention experts and wine lovers, are seeking accreditation or buying tickets.

In other words, the presentation of our guide is becoming an event not to be missed for anyone involved with wine, be it for work or pleasure, and this fills us with pride and joy.

Again this year Milan has been selected as the venue for the presentation and it will be the only one in Italy. We have decided to concentrate our efforts in Italy to focus more on the presentations abroad where – thanks to the international esteem editor-in-chief Daniele Cernilli enjoys there – the guide is gaining readers, thanks also to the German-language edition that came out last year along with the already established English version.

The 2020 edition of the Essential Guide to Italian Wine will be presented in Milan on Sunday, September 29. Following the presentation and awards ceremony, which will take place in the morning at Palazzo Castiglioni (by invitation only), the day will continue with a grandiose tasting of over 200 wineries from some of the best estates in Italy. This will take place at the Hotel Principe di Savoia, Piazza della Repubblica 17 (2:30-7pm).

I will say nothing here about participating estates because to mention one and not another would be an act of discrimination. What I can say is that there will be the two 100/100 wines from Gaja and Dal Forno, as well as a slew of truly exceptional wines like Sassicaia, just to mention one. But for me, the beauty of tastings like this one is discovering wines that are lesser known. You will not be disappointed.

PS: The price of the ticket is 30 euros if purchased in advance (35 euros at the door). For sector operators (restauranteurs, wine shop owners, sommeliers listed with the various associations) the price is 25 euros for advance tickets (30 euros at the door). Accreditation for journalists is free and must be requested on-line. With the ticket, aside from the opportunity to taste the wonderful wines offered, you will receive a copy of the Guide – which can be picked up as you leave – and a wine glass with the DoctorWine logo etched on to it.
