La Gironda, tante facce della barbera

Susanna Galandrino heads a winery that in just a few years has made a name for itself on Monferrato wine scene with its versions of Barbera: La Gironda.

La Gironda is a relatively new estate but with its fine wines it has quickly established itself as a key player in the relaunching of Nizza Barbera. A background in producing farm equipment has allowed the estate to move swiftly in defining its style with the right balance between technology and tradition: the first at the service of the second.

The estate’s some 10 hectares of vineyards are situated near its headquarters on the hills behind Nizza Monferrato and have lovely southeast and southwest exposures. Although Susanna Galandrino runs the estate, her whole family is involved in improving it. In the winery are temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and barrels of various sizes, with a preference for small barrels for the estate’s standard-bearer Nizza Le Nicchie.

What follows are a sampling of the estate’s Barbera wines but they also produce an excellent Moscato and other wines well-worth discovering.
