Capichera, Fabrizio Ragnedda and Gallura

The Capichera estate was founded in the 1970s near Arzachena and Fabrizio Ragnedda, one of its owners, could be described as the “monk of Vermentino di Gallura” because of his character and dedication.

Fabrizio Ragnedda is the person at the Capichera estate who is responsible for the vineyards and the winery at his family’s estate created in the 1970s in the Arzachena countryside and which produced its first wine in 1981.

Their wines quickly became models thanks to their character and structure and have allowed the whole world to get to know the extraordinary territory of Gallura. Along with Vermentino they also make red wines from Carignano and Syrah that have had an immediate success thanks to grapes that seem to thrive in the granite soil of Gallura. Also helping was a good marketing and effective and steep pricing policy.

Fabrizio Ragnedda is totally dedicated to producing quality wine. He is a 54-year-old, shy, austere and reserved man who literally comes alive up when he gives you a tour of his vineyards (considered some of the best cared for in Sardinia) and explains the changes that have been made over the years, the experiments carried out and the cultivation methods practiced. But he also does not hold back when it comes to the difficult 2017 harvest and the April frost that kept him from producing reds this year.

He explains all this with a passion and love for his work and land that comes close religious fervor. The result of so much dedication are wines that can easily be defined as extraordinary thanks to the skill in making them, their quintessential territoriality and unmistakable personality.
