Mousset, such an unusual red

In the hands of Laurent Mousset, the semi-unknown appellation of Entraygues produces a wine that goes straight to the heart: La Pauca Domaine Mousset

If you are a fan of “secondary” France then skip this and go to the next article because when it comes to Entraygues Le Fei you could say we are talking about “tertiary” France. Entraygues Le Fei, in fact, is a microscopic appellation (20 hectares) in the subzone of Aveyron, in one of the lesser-known winemaking areas of France, the southwest.

More precisely, it is above Hérault, more or less the central-southern district of the French hexagon. Aveyron is an isolated area with one of the lowest population densities in the country with farming has the main activity. The landscape is a mix of mountains and foothills, at the feet of the Massif Central, and the zone is almost even overlooked by domestic tourism.

Wine production is small, the vines grow in pebbly soil on terraced plots set on hillsides that have a vertiginous pitch (take a look) while the varietals are a kind of mix of Bordeaux red grapes (the two Cabernets and the native Fer Servadou, which is of the same family as Carménère) and whites of the Loire Valley (Chenin Blanc is used for the very little white wines produced).

The question thus arises as to why talk about a wine that basically does not exist nor is it probably imported in Italy? The reason is that this is a red with a surprising, many sided and communicative personality and while it may not be urbane (snobby palates beware), it easily goes to the heart of those seeking expressiveness and an emotion experience.
